In the Key of Love

It’s been two years since MAGGIE CASE (Laura Osnes) left Nashville and came to Piedmount Island, an idyllic wedding spot off the coast of Washington, to take over her grandmother’s photography business, leaving her boyfriend, JAKE COLBY (Scott Michael Foster), and their singing duo Colby & Case behind. Her life is content until Jake’s sister, Jennifer, surprises Maggie by showing up on the island to get married with her brother Jake in tow. Being the wedding photographer, Maggie is thrust into spending time with Jake as she photographs all the pre-wedding events. Jake, who is now a record producer with a big album for recording-star Ashleigh Z in the works, is juggling the pressures of his job and the wedding and soon, Maggie is reminded of his perfectionist personality and know-it-all mentality and why she left him and Nashville behind. Things begin to shift, however, when Maggie and Jake end up singing together at a romantic fire pit cookout and Jennifer convinces them to sing her favorite duet of theirs. “I Belong in Your Arms,” for her first dance. As they rehearse, they begin to see each other in a new light and old patterns start to fall away. They find themselves enjoying spending time with each other at the festivities and even team up to save the day when there is a wedding mishap. And when Jake’s album is suddenly in trouble and may not happen after all, Maggie steps in and helps to save the album even though it will take him out of the country and away from her for over a year. After the ceremony, Jake finds that Maggie’s plan worked, and he must leave immediately and go back to the mainland. But, because the only ferry going back to the mainland is leaving immediately, he is unable to tell Maggie. But while on the ferry, he realizes he’s making a huge mistake leaving Maggie and must find a way to get back to Piedmount Island and her.

The Chrysalis

How do you say goodbye to a houseful of memories?

It’s been over a year since John Sicura’s beloved wife of 45 years passed away. When his adult children (artsy Vicky, workaholic Kerri and her husband, stay-at-home-dad Colin) come for Sunday dinner to their childhood, New Jersey, suburban home, John announces he is selling the house and moving to a swank high-rise condo in Fort Lee. The news of this sends drama-child Vicki into a meltdown as she retreats to her happy place, a basement mural that she’s been pouring her emotions onto since she was eight. Kerri, of course, thinks it makes fiscal sense but wants to control every aspect of the sale.

Over an epic eight weeks of preparing the house to be sold, it transforms from a lived-in home filled with love to an empty house. Digging through boxes and boozy late-night talks on the roof lead to self-reflection and surprising confessions. Kerri’s new promotion has strained her marriage to the point where she’s rarely home, and Colin confesses he went to a bar without his wedding ring. The kids discover John has joined “Silver Foxes,” a dating site for sophisticated singles over sixty. Vicki struggles with the fact that John is throwing away the mom’s sketchbooks. And when the realtor accidentally paints over Vicky’s mural while staging the house, old family dynamics come spilling out as the family is forced to confront their own life choices as they speed toward their inevitable metamorphosis.

The Chrysalis explores the importance of embracing our passions, and the hilarious messiness that makes families truly unforgettable.
